Adapting to New Dentures

dental supply companyWhen it comes to dentures, excellent care and proper dental hygiene products are a must. Without it, there is an increased risk of gum disease, leukoplakia, and fungal infections. However, you might be tempted to be rid of your dentures because they will, without a doubt, take some getting used to. It can be a very uncomfortable experience in the beginning. See your dentist within 24 hours after receiving your dentures. Minor adjustments might need to be made and it’s not uncommon to experience initial discomfort.

It will take time for the mouth to adjust and you need to practice how to chew with them. Start slowly by chewing on small pieces of soft foods. As your confidence increases, so can the food. Speaking will also require some practice and you may have trouble pronouncing certain words. However, if you notice that speaking nor eating becomes any easier, you may need to get them readjusted. A poor fit, persistent mouth irritation, or any chips/breaks will need to be taken care of immediately. Changes in one’s bones and gums continue throughout your lifetime so there is a strong possibility that you will eventually need them adjusted. A dental supplier, like Dealon Dental, can provide your dentist with the tools necessary to give you a more pleasant and comfortable denture experience.
