Vegetarians and Good Oral Health

While that’s all well and good, people cannot forget how diet can play an important role on one’s oral health. Children especially need a well-balanced diet to ensure proper growth. Children and teens are a greater chance of deficiencies if they’re not supplementing their diet correctly.

It’s easy to have deficiencies in calcium, vitamin D, riboflavin, and vitamin B12 –especially for those who are vegan and don’t eat any dairy. Not receiving enough of these vitamins and proteins is not just bad for your overall health, but can lead to tooth decay and gum disease. Eating the proper amount of fruits, veggies, legumes and grains, along with taking vitamin supplements, can give you the vitamins you need.

However, the downside to consuming too much fruit is that you will now become susceptible to tooth erosion from all the acid in certain fruits and from the natural sugars. It’s all about finding the right balance. But talking to both a nutritionist and a dentist can help you determine the right foods to eat. It’s not just about having the right dental hygiene products. What you eat effects every part of your body, teeth included.
