Dentist Supplies for Children with Common Medical Conditions

A study published in the May/June 2010 issue of General Dentistry, a journal of the Academy of General Dentistry, has shown that treatments for common childhood medical conditions can have a negative impact on children’s dental health and make oral hygiene a challenge.

The study found that special diets prescribed for children with weight problems and certain food allergies can contribute to tooth decay, as can the frequent use of flavored, sugary medicine syrups, particularly when administered at bedtime.

To provide the best dental care, dentists need to be aware of a child’s full medical history and medical needs to provide appropriate preventative and routine oral treatment and help reduce the likelihood of oral diseases developing, the study found.

As children use medications and diets as prescribed by their doctor, a dentist may recommend more frequent applications of preventative dental hygiene products such as fluoridated toothpaste, mouthwash and regular rinsing to reduce the risk of tooth decay. Children may also need extra assistance with brushing their teeth from caregivers. has a wide range of brand-name preventative dentist supplies for both adults and children, for use in the surgery and at home, including oral rinses, fluorides, pit and fissure sealants and oral cleaning aids, all at the best prices.
